Thanks for reading Pygmy and Nadia!

Yes, stereotypes of Asian women really annoy me too, particularly when used "harmlessly" in contemporary Western popular culture. The result is that supposedly well-educated people back in the UK see nothing wrong with making offensive comments and judgements, whether in earnest or in jest - or worst of all as an intended compliment.

I.e "Is it true that Asian women would do anything for a white man?" "Wow, your parents must have met in an interesting way." "I tell all my friends to get themselves a Filipina woman, they're always smiling!" "Asian women are better than white women because they talk less and respect themselves more."

This is a great article. This has long fascinated and infuriated me - especially that the image of the Asian woman as submissive and sexualised (but not herself/ourselves sexual) is still so pervasive. Thanks for writing.

I don't know why I haven't seen this article before. I really enjoyed reading this. It's so true that Asian women have been depicted in such ways. It would be so interesting to study all of these depictions of the 'Asian Woman' in more detail. Perhaps we should do a joint PHD? x

Hi! This is my first time on your blog. Got some good stuff here. I am trying to track down a rumor I keep running into. I have heard the Chinese military built a hidden lab near Stung Treng. They were supposedly testing some hallucinogenic drug like acid that made you think you were having an out of body experience. Anyone have any info about it?

Yes, I'm not a big fan of war movies either. Still have not seen all of Saving Private Ryan. Give me a fairytale or romcom anyday. But, being forced to watch this, I did manage to see its good points. I wouldn't force yourself!
